OCR: It is a common misconception that deserts cannot be destroyed. A tropical rainforest can be chopped down and destroyed, marshland habitats can be drained and destroyed. But a desert? Surely deserts are just sand and rock. This is a totally false viewpoint. The ecology of the world's deserts is in a delicate balance, and humankind can easily destroy the balance and harmony of these regions. Nowhere is this more true than in the American southwest, where pollution
